After the no-fault accident.

The minutes after an accident often decide the later settlement. Whoever stays calm and knows the right steps secures their claims – without costly mistakes.

First

Secure, protect, document.

First bring yourself and others to safety: hazard lights on, put on a hi-vis vest, set up the warning triangle, help anyone injured. Only once no one is in danger does the damage matter.

In the event of personal injury, high property damage or a dispute over how it happened: call the police. The police record can later be an important piece of evidence.

At the scene
•

Document

Photograph vehicles, number plates, final positions, skid marks and surroundings – from several angles, before anything is moved.

•

Exchange details

Note the other party's name, address, plate, insurer and claim number. Record witnesses with contact details.

•

Admit nothing

Do not sign an admission of fault or any statement from the other side. You need not comment on the question of fault at the scene.

Afterwards

Your next steps.

Instruct an independent car appraiser promptly – after a no-fault accident that is your good right, and the other side bears the cost. Do not repair before the inspection: afterwards the original damage can no longer be reliably established.

Report the accident to your own insurer without admitting fault. Be wary of quick settlement offers from the opposing insurer – they are often below the actual claim. An appraisal provides the solid basis here.

Frequently asked

Answered briefly.

Do I always have to call the police?
Not necessarily. For personal injury, high property damage or a dispute over the course of events the police make sense. For clear minor cases exchanging details is often enough.
May I have my car repaired before the appraisal?
Better not. After the repair the original extent of the damage can no longer be established – items like diminished value are then hard to enforce.
Should I accept the opposing insurer's offer?
Examine it critically. Quick settlements are often below the actual loss. An independent report shows what you are truly entitled to.
How quickly should I act?
Promptly. The sooner the damage is documented, the clearer the evidence. We are usually at the vehicle within 24 hours.
