Motorhomes & caravans.

On a motorhome the expensive damage is rarely where you can see it. We inspect the body, the seals and the moisture content – and assess collision, hail and water damage in full rather than only at the surface.

The body decides

Two vehicles in one – and two assessments.

A motorhome is two vehicles in one: a base vehicle with chassis, drivetrain and suspension – and a body in sandwich construction that is assessed by entirely different rules. Anyone who calculates only the bodywork misses the larger part of the damage.

Bodies built from GRP, aluminium and insulating foam react sensitively to impact and to ingressing moisture. An apparently harmless manoeuvring knock on a corner can release the bonding over a wide area; a leaking roof joint saturates the insulation over months until the body can no longer be economically repaired.

We therefore always measure the moisture – at wall, roof and floor joints, at windows, roof lights and service hatches. The measurement protocol forms part of every report and is frequently decisive for the real value.

Moisture & seal testing

Measurement at every critical joint, with a written protocol – the basis of any robust assessment of a body.

Hail & storm damage

Systematic recording of impact points by zone and size – including large-area damage to the roof and body.

Value before buying & selling

Market-based valuation including the interior fit-out, accessories and registration position – robust towards buyer and insurer alike.

Scope

What we assess.

We assess leisure vehicles of every construction type, manufacturer and year. On self-builds we additionally assess the quality of the work and its effect on value and insurability – a point that regularly leads to argument when a claim arises.

  • Semi-integrated, fully integrated and overcab motorhomes
  • Panel van conversions on the Ducato, Sprinter, Crafter and Transit
  • Caravans of every manufacturer and year
  • Expedition and special bodies, and self-builds
  • Trailers, horse boxes and transport trailers
  • Base vehicle, suspension, weight uprating and tyre age

04

The report

You normally receive the report within 24 to 48 hours.

Time off the road

Downtime is real money – and part of your claim.

A damaged motorhome rarely stands for only a few days. Body parts often have long lead times and specialist workshops are fully booked – particularly in season. That time off the road is a genuine financial loss.

We document the realistic repair duration and state the loss of use compensation, or the cost of a hire vehicle, as a separate item. Where the collision was not your fault this too forms part of your claim for damages – but without a report insurers frequently do not reimburse it.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

Why does the moisture measurement matter so much?
Because moisture in the body is by far the most value-destroying form of damage on a motorhome – and it stays invisible for a long time. A saturated sandwich body can halve the value of the vehicle even though nothing is visible from outside.
I want to buy a used motorhome – is a report worth it?
In the overwhelming majority of cases, yes. The cost of the inspection bears no relation to the cost of a saturated or badly repaired body, which quickly runs into five figures.
Does the insurer cover the appraisal fee?
Where the collision was not your fault, yes, in full. On comprehensive-insurance claims such as hail it depends on the insurer – we clarify that for you in advance. For pre-purchase advice and valuation reports we quote a fixed price beforehand.
Will you come to a campsite or to winter storage?
Yes. We inspect wherever the vehicle is standing – within the Rottweil area at no surcharge, and further afield by arrangement.
Free & without obligation

Have the body properly checked.

Before you buy, after hail or after a collision – we come to the vehicle and measure the moisture where it actually matters.
