Replacement value
What does a comparable vehicle cost on the regional market? We establish it realistically – not in the insurer's favour.

A repaired accident vehicle is worth less on the market – and that loss is compensation you are entitled to. With a total loss, the replacement value and the residual value decide what you are paid. We calculate both so they hold up in court, and in your interest.
Even after a flawless repair, your car remains a vehicle with accident history. When you later sell it you are obliged to disclose the collision – and buyers pay noticeably less for a car that has been in an accident. That loss in value is what German law calls merkantile Wertminderung, and it is a separate claim for damages against the other party's insurer.
How large it is depends on the age of the vehicle, its mileage, the extent of the damage and the state of the market – on newer vehicles several hundred to well over a thousand euros is quickly realistic. Insurers are inclined to set this item too low, or to leave it out altogether. We calculate the diminished value using recognised methods and state it bindingly in your report.

An economic total loss arises when repairing the vehicle would cost more than replacing it with an equivalent one. Your compensation is then the replacement value less the residual value – two figures well worth fighting over.
The replacement value is the price of a comparable vehicle on the regional market, including its specification, its condition and its history. Where an insurer's appraiser sets it too low, you lose real money. The residual value is what your damaged vehicle would still fetch. Here the reverse applies: a residual value set too high reduces your payout. We establish both figures realistically, in line with the market and open to verification.
The 130 per cent rule matters too: where the repair costs come to no more than 30 per cent above the replacement value, you may under certain conditions still have the vehicle repaired and go on using it. Whether that is worthwhile in your case is something we work through transparently with you.

What is your damaged vehicle still worth? We examine serious offers rather than inflated bids from salvage exchanges.
Total loss, repair or the 130 per cent rule: we show you the route that yields the highest compensation.
With diminished value and total loss in particular, a few percentage points decide hundreds or thousands of euros. The appraiser instructed by the insurer has a clear interest of his own: keeping the payout as low as possible. As independent appraisers in the Black Forest region we work solely for you as the injured party – and where the collision was not your fault, our fee is borne by the other party's insurer.
