Lease takeover reports.

Before you take on a leased vehicle – new from the dealer or from another lessee – we record the exact starting condition. That is your evidence for a fair return at the end.

Why it matters

The starting condition decides what happens at return.

When a leased vehicle is returned, its condition is compared against the starting condition documented at the beginning of the contract – or, where none exists, frequently against the condition of a new car. Minor paint damage, stone chips or signs of use that were already there at takeover can then easily be charged to you as return damage without justification.

With a neutral condition assessment carried out at takeover – including complete photographic documentation of paint, wheels, interior and mileage – you create an objective basis of evidence. That applies both when you start a lease on a new vehicle and when you take over a running contract from another lessee.

The effort is small and the benefit considerable: a single disputed item at return quickly costs several hundred euros – considerably more than the inspection at takeover.

A complete record

Paint, bodywork, wheels, tyres, interior and mechanical condition are systematically recorded and documented.

Photographic documentation

Every irregularity is photographed – your evidence of the condition at handover.

Mileage & equipment

We record the mileage, the specification and the accessories – all of which matter for the final account.

Scope of inspection

What we record at takeover.

The record captures everything that can become contentious at return. You receive the result as a written record with photographic documentation – digitally, and printed on request to file with your contract papers.

  • Paint condition and coating thickness on every body panel
  • Existing scratches, dents, stone chips and resprayed areas
  • Wheels and tyres including tread depth and kerb damage
  • Glazing, headlights and the sensors fitted
  • Interior: upholstery, trim, controls and odours
  • Mileage, specification and the accessories supplied
  • Completeness of keys, service book and owner's document wallet
30–60minutes on site
How it works

Four steps to your takeover record.

It is best to arrange the appointment to coincide with the handover itself – then the documented condition really is the starting condition.

01

Arrange the appointment

You give us the handover date and the location – at the dealer or at the previous lessee.

02

The inspection

A systematic record of paint, wheels, interior, mechanical condition and mileage.

03

The photographic record

Every irregularity is photographed individually and located in the record.

04

Your documents

You receive the complete record – your basis of evidence for the return.

Taking over a contract

Especially important when taking over a contract.

If you take over a running lease from a private individual, you take the vehicle as it is – including every defect already present. As far as the leasing company is concerned, you are then the person answerable for its condition at return.

Without a neutral record at the point of takeover, it is no longer possible in a dispute to establish which damage came from you and which was already there. That is precisely why we recommend an inspection here particularly strongly – it protects you from claims that your predecessor ought to answer for.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know.

When should I have a takeover report done?
Ideally at the moment the vehicle is handed over – whether you are starting a new lease or taking over an existing contract from someone else.
What happens if I have no takeover report?
Without a documented starting condition, the comparison at return is frequently made against the condition of a new vehicle – so earlier damage or wear that was already present at takeover can wrongly be charged to you.
Does this apply when I take over from a private lessee as well?
Yes, and there it matters most: you take on the contract together with every existing defect – a neutral record protects you from later disputes with the leasing company.
How long does the inspection take?
Normally 30 to 60 minutes on site, depending on the type of vehicle. You then receive a written record with photographic documentation.
